The proportions are grand and the room-flow palatial at Champ d'Or. Without the finishing details, however, the estate's magnificence would be far from complete.
One element highlighted throughout is the home's ornamental moldings. J. P. Weaver Company, based in Glendale, California, and extant since 1914, provided the extraordinary millwork.
In Betty Lou Phillips's Unmistakably French, a mirror in the master bedroom framed with elaborate moldings is described:
"High style is a mirror that takes its cue from
the Cabinet du Conseil in the Palace of
Versailles. Additional moldings in the
bedroom echo the room's ceremonial scale and
proportions. . . with elements lifted from the
mirror."
Quality details are even found in what one might consider lesser-important rooms: Lalique fixtures in the lady's shampoo room and antique bronze sconces from Paris in the black-and-gold mens powder room. In the kitchen is a porcelain-enameled La Cornue range, the crème de la crème of stoves, acclaimed by French gourmets since 1908.
Essential to the creation of Champ d'Or's grand proportions--details and all--are long-time Dallas builder Sterling Kenty and architect J. Terry Bates, based in Nashville, Tennessee.
